Position Overview:
The Konrad Adenauer Chair in Empirical Democracy Studies at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher position for one year, with the potential for a
one-year renewal based on performance and funding availability.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment and engage in collaborative research with the Chairholder, Professor Daniel Stockemer, and other members of the Chair. The position offers opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge research, gain teaching experience, and further develop your academic profile.

Responsibilities:
• Collaborative Research: Actively participate in joint research projects. Potential research areas include (but are not limited to):
o The impact of misinformation in electoral campaigns on political outcomes;
o The determinants and consequences of youth political representation; and
o The study of populist leaders/parties in power (with a focus on the United States).
• Independent Research: While collaboration is key, the selected fellow will have time to conduct and develop their own research projects.
• Dissemination: Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals and present research at academic conferences.
• Teaching (optional): Opportunity to teach the fourth-year undergraduate course “Elections, Parties & Public Opinion” at the School of Political Studies during the Spring 2026 term.

Qualifications Required:
• A completed Ph.D. (or defense scheduled before the start date) in Political Science or a closely related field, with a specialization relevant to political behavior.
• A strong doctoral dissertation demonstrating research potential in political behavior.
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced quantitative research methods (e.g., causal inference,
experimental design, survey analysis, advanced regression techniques).
• Proficiency with quantitative analysis software (e.g., R and/or Stata).
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).
• Evidence of research productivity appropriate to career stage (e.g., publications, working
papers, conference presentations).

Compensation and Benefits:
• Salary: CAD $60,000 per annum with teaching (one course)
• Benefits: Health benefits will be provided in accordance with the University of Ottawa’s policies on postdoctoral researchers.

• The Konrad Adenauer Chair in Empirical Democracy Studies focuses on key challenges of contemporary democracies including those shaping Germany and Canada. Using methodological pluralism, the chair tries to contribute to knowledge in the field of populism, electoral studies, public opinion research and political representation.
