1)  International IDEA has published The Global State of Democracy 2025: Democracy on the Move, which draws on the latest update (Version 9) of the Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Indices.  The report reveals that more than half of the world's countries have experienced a decline in at least one key area of democracy over the past five years, with significant deterioration in judicial independence, press freedom, and electoral integrity. The GSoD Indices provide annual country scores dating back to 1975 across four pillars – Representation, Rights, Rule of Law, and Participation – and are available as open data with an updated codebook. The 2025 volume includes new rankings, an executive summary, and thematic analysis, with a special focus on voting rights for citizens abroad (Research Institutes on the IPSAPortal).

2) Since 2019, the Alliance of Democracy Foundation, sponsored by over 25 international organizations, has promoted the publication of the Democracy Perception Index (DPI). Based on responses from over 110,000 individuals across approximately 100 countries, the 2025 edition of the DPI tracks satisfaction with democracy, support for democratic principles, and attitudes toward major powers such as the United States and China. The 2025 results reveal an interesting trend: A greater number of countries now view China more positively than the US, while citizens in authoritarian regimes seem more inclined to state that they would defend their country in the event of an attack than their counterparts in democracies. The DPI provides rich, cross-national microdata on regime preferences, geopolitical alignments, and democratic resilience, with disaggregated results by region, regime type, and demographic group (Thematic Networks on the IPSAPortal).

3) The Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) has released the 2025 AI and Democratic Values Index (AIDV), providing a detailed comparative analysis of national AI governance frameworks across 80 countries. Produced with input from over 1,000 contributors worldwide, the report evaluates how well states regulate AI in keeping with democratic principles. The report identifies 2024 as a pivotal year characterized by major developments, including the introduction of the world's first binding international AI treaty under the Council of Europe, the finalization of the EU AI Act, the unveiling of the African Union's new continental AI strategy, and the global adoption of the OECD and UNESCO's ethical principles. CAIDP's rankings place Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom at the top in 2025, while the position of some technologically advanced countries dropped due to the introduction of stricter criteria centered on human rights protections and transparency (Thematic Networks on the IPSAPortal).
